Some sessions follow a familiar rhythm, but Madison’s session was the opposite of that, and in a good way!
We spent the day playing with lighting concepts I don’t utilize often. It was genuinely experimental, the kind of session where you’re figuring things out together in real time. Madison made that easy. She was collaborative from the start and willing to try anything I threw at her, which gave us room to push into some interesting concepts.
The most interesting moment came when we were playing around with back lighting Madison with a single orange light. While we were playing around with different shapes, it occurred to me we could use the circle of light as the visual anchor of the frame.
Madison adjusted easily. We worked through the placement together until the orb and the pose started to compliment each other. That back and forth is what I remember most from this part of the session.
By the time we wrapped, we had images built with a style that truly made Madison stand out. That’s what happens when a dancer and a photographer trust each other enough to play, in the end we both had a great time.
