Some sessions you have to really work for. You spend the first hour warming people up, educating them on how to find their best angles, meticulously working through all of the little details of each pose. And then there are sessions like this one where it’s the opposite.

Aiden and Macy are working professional dancers, and from the moment we started shooting, that experience showed. Aiden is a naturally calm and steady personality, the kind of collaborator who takes an idea and runs with it without making it complicated. Macy is precise and consistent, gentle in her presence but exact in her execution. Together, they made this one of the most enjoyable sessions I’ve had in the studio in a long time.

We knew we wanted this shoot to be about various pas de dux poses and shapes, playing around with lifts and each dancer’s connection with each other. It became clear quite quickly that there was little to no guesswork needed, just two people who know what they’re doing, working through ideas with me.

The Arabesque Moment

One of my favorite moments from the shoot was when Macy hit a penché arabesque on the second pose we were exploring. In that moment, I couldn’t help but exclaim something out loud. I don’t always do that, but the line she found made me physically react in the best way possible. When you’re working with someone as capable as profesional ballet dancer, you don’t just see the results immediately, you feel them too. The poses that followed had that same clean, confident quality. Strength and poise consistently all the way through our entire session. And when the work comes that easily, the whole session takes on a different energy.

Aiden and Macy are the kind of clients that remind me why I love working with dancers who take their craft seriously. The talent was there, the collaboration was there, and the photos reflect exactly that. That arabesque frame alone was worth it all.
